Wrangler Positions at Double R Guest Ranch: Full and Part Time

As a Wrangler at Double R Guest Ranch, you must be a self motivated, responsible team player with excellent horsemanship skills. An outgoing personality and the ability to provide a first class experience for our guests (on and off horseback), while maintaining a safety first mindset are critical for success. At times you may be working alone.

Our Wranglers get to lead our guests on trail rides on the almost endless miles of trails around the ranch. You will be expected to lead rides of any skill level, provide lessons, and have an in-depth knowledge of our trail system. We ask that you have All Trails App loaded on your phone for any navigation and/or to coordinate emergencies with Double R Guest Ranch Management.

In addition to guiding trail rides, you will be responsible for other tasks that support the overall success of the ranch, such as:

• Maintaining a clean and organized corral and tack room
• Wrangling horses in and out of grazing
• Saddling up to 20 head of horses daily
• Assisting guests prior to rides
• Adjusting cinches and tack
• Helping guests safely mount their horse

While on trail you will be expected to:

• Display good judgement in dealing with guests and horses in all situations
• Exhibit high quality horsemanship skills
• Be able to handle horses on the ground and in the saddle
• Display concern for the well-being of the horses
• Have basic knowledge of equine first aid
• Set a good example by wearing appropriate attire (boots with heels, long pants, stampede strings, etc)
• Communicate in a professional and friendly manner with your guests and get to know them, while providing information about the area, wildlife, Arizona cowboy history, horsemanship, etc.
• Take control of the group no matter the skill level
• Anticipate potentially dangerous situations on the trail
• Utilize emergency skills as necessary on the trail
• Have current CPR Certification and first aid training
• Be able to say NO to any guest who may jeopardize the safety of you, your horses, or other guests.

As a Wrangler you will also be expected to help with clearing and maintaining trails, fixing fences, loading hay, and cleaning and oiling tack.

5 days on 2 days off per week. In general, your day ends by 6:30 pm; however seasonally, the end of your day may change.

Note: In addition to the Wrangler responsibilities and expectations we look for outlined above, the Full Time Position includes: Caring for up to 40 head of horses which may include morning and evening feedings. There may be times you are asked to help the ranch operation during special guest events.

Living on-site completely eliminates commuting expenses and most utility bills, allowing staff to save the majority of their wages.

A flexible schedule up to 30 hours a week. You will assist the Full Time Wrangler. 2+ days/week you may be the only Wrangler while the Full Time Wrangler is off duty.
