Horsemanship
Build real horsemanship skills at Double R Guest Ranch, from groundwork and grooming to riding fundamentals, guided one-on-one by our experienced wranglers.

Bird Watching
Spot from 200+ species from the saddle or on foot, set in the Sonoita Valley’s Sky Islands habitat, considered one of North America’s best birding regions.

Hiking
Explore trails right from the ranch, through open grassland, oak canyon, and Coronado National Forest, or drive to the Sonoita Creek State Natural Area.

Stargazing
Elgin’s dark, high-desert skies make Double R Guest Ranch a prime spot for stargazing, with wide-open views of the Milky Way far from any city light pollution.

Cornhole

Challenge fellow guests or the Double R team to a game of ping pong, one of several casual indoor activities available between rides and excursions.

Board Games
Gather for board games like chess, checkers, monopoly and many more, in the Guest Lodge, a laid-back way for families and groups to spend downtime together.

Satellite TV
Catch up on the news, or watch your favorite sports team with other guests in the Guest Lodge or privately in your casita. All casitas have satellite TV.

Archery
Practice archery on property during your stay, another hands-on ranch activity available to guests of all experience levels at Double R Guest Ranch.

Patagonia
Spend an afternoon in Patagonia, AZ, a short drive from the ranch, known for its boutique shops, art galleries, festivals, dining and birding along Sonoita Creek.

Tombstone Day Trip
Take a day trip to Tombstone and watch a gunfight! The historic Old West town famous for the O.K. Corral and it’s cemetery, a short scenic drive from the ranch.
Kartchner Caverns State Park
Truly a southern Arizona gem! Home to the one of the best showcaves in the country, this diverse park offers guided cave tours by reservation.

Vineyards, Distilleries & Meaderies
Tour the tasting rooms of Elgin and Sonoita, Arizona’s original wine country, with transportation available so no one in your group has to drive.
Tumacacori National Historical Park
Explore the ruins of an 18th-century Spanish mission, learn about the people who lived there and why they left. Near Tubac, one of the oldest historic sites in Arizona.

Visit Tubac
About an hour from the ranch, the town is known as the place where art and history meet, home the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park to premium galleries, shopping, and fine dining.

Parker Canyon Lake
This beautiful lake located in the Coronado National Forest, famous for fishing, boating, birding, kayaking and hiking. Boats and kayaks are available to rent.

Ask about local festivals happening during your stay, from art & music festivals to community celebrations around Elgin, Patagonia, Tubac and Sonoita, Arizona

Rodeo (when available)
Catch a rodeo at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds in Sonoita when in season, a true taste of local Arizona ranch culture just minutes away.

Santa Cruz County Fair Grounds
Hosting events throughout the year, including the county fair, 4H, rodeo and community events. Stop for a bite at The Steak Out, a beloved local tradition.

Patagonia Lake
In the Coronado National Forest, rent a pontoon boat and cruise out to one of its little private islands for a picnic and watch the wildlife, or swim from the beach. Kayaks also for rent.

Lochiel and San Rafael Ranch
A ghost town, named by rancher Colin Cameron in 1884. A monument to Fray Marcos from 1542, the remains of a one room schoolhouse; a teacherage; an adobe church; and an abandoned U.S. Customs office.
